Understanding your needs is essential. Reframing your story is transformative.
But flourishing only happens through practice.
Tending is the steady, daily act of meeting your needs — body and being. It is the grown up version of the devoted, responsible care we give to our children.
It's not indulgence. It's not a bootcamp. It's not a glow-up.
It's a return to the basics of being human, grounded in neuroscience, biology, and what we already know about how living things actually thrive.
We Forgot How To Be Human
We understand instinctively that living things need specific conditions — the right nourishment, the right rest, the right kind of maintenance.
But when it comes to ourselves, we act like thriving is a luxury.
It isn't.
This isn't a wellness trend or a productivity hack. It's the basic maintenance every living system requires — adapted, specifically, for a human being.
You'll begin by recovering the part of yourself that's been most neglected. The course introduces the neglected-child metaphor — the idea that your inner life has been waiting, patiently or not, for the kind of care you'd offer something you love. You'll explore radical self-responsibility (not blame — agency), and how humans outgrow problems rather than solve them.
You'll learn the science behind why Tending works — neuroplasticity, neuropeptides, epigenetics — in plain language, with real implications. One of the most useful ideas in the course: a 1979 Harvard study found that hotel chambermaids who were simply told their daily work qualified as exercise showed measurable improvements in weight, body fat, and blood pressure — without changing a single behavior. Awareness itself is a biological intervention.
How sustainable care actually works: mindfully, daily, routinely, incrementally, variably, and through blending — doing things that meet multiple needs at once. Simple tracking systems that help keep you steady.
Five areas of need — nourish, rest, exercise, maintain, eliminate — applied to both your body and your being. Ten dimensions of care. Nothing left out. Nothing overcomplicated.
| Body: Hydration, breath, food, sleep, movement, maintenance, what you release.
| Being: Inspiration, connection, knowledge, stillness, challenge, what you let go.
Practical aids that turn insight into rhythm: the WellBeing Personal Inventory, your Tending Pantry, tracking spreads, and an Emergency Tending Kit — for the days when everything feels like too much and you need the clearest practical steps.
The final module covers how to prepare for and participate in the Weekly Conversation — the peer-led structure where everything you've learned in all three courses becomes practice alongside other people on the same path.
Self-care feels optional — the thing to go when life gets hard. You battle symptoms directly — anxiety, fatigue, overwhelm — and the results are limited, temporary.
Tending becomes a rhythm. You stop fighting problems and start outgrowing them. You feel steady, not because circumstances have changed, but because you have.
